A Word With Us

Antonin and Vicky work with residents in nursing homes and day centres to create an audio and paper collection of their stories, poems, memories, songs and words of wisdom.
Through storytelling workshops, participant’s words of joy, grace, truth and laughter are recorded and edited into a radio drama style audio piece. Music and sound effects are added, which enhance their emotions and allow their words to bloom.

Each care home and participant receive a CD of the work to share with friends and family.

Benefits

Participants become involved in speaking, listening, answering questions and engaging in conversations giving them the opportunity to develop their communication skills, stimulate memory and encourage constructive thinking

Sessions are designed so people feel valued and encouraged as they share their ideas and life experiences.

Their sense of self-worth is developed further as we turn their ideas into poetry or a piece of prose. Participants are guided in creating poems, reading their work into a microphone and becoming involved in creating the final piece. They experience a sense of achievement and enjoy the thrill of listening back to their voice.

The participants enjoy the opportunity to be creative and playful with words and ideas, through using poetry techniques and storytelling games.

Care home staff can learn more about their residents as they share more about their lives and ideas.

Autumn
Peace and tranquillity before the autumn starts
Fresh, clean, cool and amber.
Leaves fall, slower before they reach the ground,
And a gentle breeze – a breath gasping
